Halloween vs. Reformation? Part One.

Part One will deal with what we do in place of Halloween. Part two will deal with what we do on Halloween!

OK I am just going to lay it out there... personally think Halloween is a very silly (if not dumb) holiday. I am not going into detail, but why celebrate a holiday about dead people? And not about the place where they went (heaven I hope) but about dead people that came back form the dead. (And I ain't talking the Resurrection here guys!!!)
Well at our church we celebrate, All Saint's Day a.k.a. Reformation day. We celebrate in memory of Martin Luther, John Calvin, and Martin Bucer. It is so much fun. On the Sunday closest to October 31st we have a party at our church! How much fun is that!

Who out there has a reformation party? Let us know!!! Come on, host a reformation party this year!

Let Music Ring!

Until last year we had always wanted to play music. Piano, violin, cello... We loved it all! At our church there are 4 violins, one cello, a trumpet, and a piano! As you can imagine our musical desire was only fed in this type of environment! Well we prayed long and hard and the Lord gave us a piano for free through several families in the church. Now we really wanted to play! As we taught ourselves the first two years of piano we fell in love with music! We all started wanting to add violin to our "repertoire" and our sweet parents gave us two violins for Christmas. Two weeks later when a different family at church heard of our need they gave us a beautiful violin free as well!

Well, now we had the fiddles, but we were lacking the teacher! The Lord gave us Bria! As sweet a girl as you will ever meet! She was more than willing to empart her great wisdom to us!

Praise the Lord for our four violins (we just bought another one), our piano, and our teachers! Did I mention Emily L.? She is as sweet as they come and she teaches us piano!

~Jess~

P.S.
Bria will tell you she is not any good, but her pupils know better! :)

From the HSLDA e-lert service

Please Pray for Chris Klicka and His Family

Dear HSLDA Members and Friends:

Chris Klicka, HSLDA’s first full-time attorney, who has been fighting multiple sclerosis for many years, became very ill at our National Leaders Conference in Colorado last week. Chris was admitted to St. Francis Medical Center in Colorado Springs, where he remains in critical condition.

His family has traveled from Virginia to be with him. Please pray for them as they wait on the Lord during this difficult time.

For updates on Chris’s status visit CaringBridge.org.

For more about Chris’s years of service to the homeschooling community, view his bio at HSLDA’s website.

In Christ,

Mike Smith
HSLDA President

If I had a husband...

Yesterday our church had a picnic at a local park. We were in charge of setting up so we were the first ones there. When we got there were some "trick teeth" (you know the kind where you pop them in and it looks like your teeth rotted out? Why people think that is funny I don't know.) Well anyway Sarah saw them and looked at Mommy. "If I had a husband right now," she said, "I would put those in and tell him I knocked my teeth out playing on the playground!"

Oh the joy of a little sister! I love Sarah

A Visit with Good Friends!

This movie was made the day Michael fell and hit his head. While Mommy and Daddy rushed him to the emergency room our sweet friends the Marshes took care of us. When Mommy and Daddy returned (with the perfectly well baby) we made this movie with all the kids. We had so much fun!

These are also our good friends who took care of us while we were camping. While we ran late they made the whole meal back at the campsite! When we forgot our chicken they fed us out of their own stuff. They are our best friends!

We love you Marshes!!!
